{"id":621,"date":"2012-11-02T15:12:14","date_gmt":"2012-11-02T19:12:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.flyfishersofvirginia.org\/?page_id=621"},"modified":"2012-11-02T15:14:18","modified_gmt":"2012-11-02T19:14:18","slug":"2006-speakers","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.flyfishersofvirginia.org\/?page_id=621","title":{"rendered":"2006 Speakers"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr align=\"left\">\n<p>Our November 2006 dinner speaker was Paul Bugas<br \/>The Shenandoah River earned a national reputation as a top Smallmouth bass destina-<br \/>tion and then a series of highly publicized fish kills over the past few years wiped out<br \/>many of the fish over 12 inches. While both the North Fork and South Fork&#8217;s of the<br \/>river hold many Smallmouth in 6- to 10-inch range, biologists are still trying to deter-<br \/>mine what caused the fish kill and how to prevent it in the future.<br \/>Paul Bugas works out of the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries office<br \/>in Verona, and is a member of the task team investigating the fish kills. Bugas will be<br \/>our speaker at the club meeting on Nov. 16. He will discuss the findings of the task<br \/>team so far, the current state of the river and what the future holds for this famous<br \/>fishery.<br \/>\u2022Paul Bugas, Jr. is a Senior Fisheries Biologist for the Virginia Department of Game<br \/>and Inland Fisheries. Paul earned a B.S. in Forestry and Wildlife from Virginia Tech<br \/>and immediately thereafter began work as a seasonal employee on the original Trout<br \/>Stream Survey. He was hired as a Fish Biologist Assistant two years later and was<br \/>eventually promoted to District Fisheries Biologist and Fisheries Biologist Supervisor.<br \/>His fisheries related interests are varied and include wild trout management, water-<br \/>shed ecology, and public outreach. <\/p>\n<hr align=\"left\">\n<p><b>Our September 21st dinner speaker featured Captain Tommy Mattioli.<\/b> <\/p>\n<p><b>This dinner was held at our new venue, the Salisbury Country Club. <\/b> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flyfishersofvirginia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/tm.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"tm\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"tm\" src=\"https:\/\/www.flyfishersofvirginia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/tm_thumb.jpg\" width=\"244\" height=\"214\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p><b>Captain Mattioli specializes in guiding on the Chesapeake Bay on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.matty-j.com\/\">&#8216;Matty-J&#8217;<\/a>.<\/b> <\/p>\n<hr align=\"left\">\n<p><i>Our May 18th dinner speaker was FFV member<\/i> <\/p>\n<p><i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flyfishtheworld.com\/\">Robert Thomas<\/a>.<\/i> <\/p>\n<p>Robert, along with Larry Baron and guest David Piotrowski discussed fishing in Central America.  <\/p>\n<hr align=\"left\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flyfishersofvirginia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/bream1.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"bream1\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"bream1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.flyfishersofvirginia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/bream1_thumb.gif\" width=\"240\" height=\"149\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p><b>Master angler and author, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flyfishersofvirginia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/pfeiffer.htm\">C.
