Dear FFV Member,
Next month, Orvis – Short Pump will begin offering its Fly Fishing 101 and 201 classes. These are free classes that are offered to beginning fly fishers and to those interested in learning more about the basics of our sport. Orvis has asked if we (FFV members) would be interested in volunteering to assist them with these classes as we have in the past.
Here is what is involved. You would be assisting an Orvis employee as they demonstrate the basics of fly fishing and casting. Classes are on the dates listed below. For the FF101 classes the hours are 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturdays and 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Sundays. For the 201 classes the hours are from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on both Saturday and Sunday. Assisting is rewarding, informative, and allows us to put the FFV name in front of a number of enthusiastic prospective members who are just getting into our great sport.
As a volunteer you are considered a “guide” for that day and to show their gratitude, the management of the Orvis Short Pump store is offering to give each volunteer the “guide discount” (40% off retail) on any purchase made in the store that day, even if the item has to be ordered.
This is a great chance to show our thanks to Orvis for their support of FFV throughout the year and to pick up something you need from Orvis at a discount. Remember you will be assisting an Orvis employee who will be teaching the class.

FF201* Saturday, May 11 Sunday, May 12

FF101 Saturday, May 25 Sunday, May, 26
FF201* Saturday, June 1 Sunday, June 2
FF101 Saturday, June 8 Sunday, June 9
FF201* Saturday, June 15 Sunday, June 16
<! FF201 classes are conducted on the water and the hours are slightly longer.
